Historical Information about the Espace Rousseau

Upon the request of several Rousseau experts, the State Council supported the creation of an “association for the creation of Espace Jean-Jacques Rousseau" in 1995. Presided over by Professor Christian Lalive d’Epinay, the association worked endlessly to gather the necessary political and financial support to endorse and realise the Espace project. JKdesign, a firm specialised in museum designs, won the competition for the layout of the Espace Rousseau, and created its contemporary setting. Thanks to the ‘Département de l’aménagement, de l’équipement et du logement’ of the canton of Geneva and the assistance of many other private and public institutions, the Espace Rousseau finally opened in June 2002.
